Rathnagiri mangoes are also known as Alphonso mangoes, named after Afonso de Albuquerque, a Portuguese viceroy who introduced them to India. They are cultivated in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, India, and are considered to be one of the finest varieties of mangoes in the world.
